Thoughts and feelings about the store. Floors are clean, weeds are wacked and we are starting to load in our furniture and fabrics. This is real! This is real? This. Is. Real.

We took another run of fabric to the shop. I’m slowly getting all of the furniture and merchandise we’ve collected over to the shop. Big shelves and such are next.

We went out to the desert to pick up furniture for the shop. The light in the house was too pretty for words. And somehow these vignettes are all vibes.

I finally cleaned my beautiful vintage Bernina 830. It’s been a long time coming. So many puppets, costumes and repairs since the last maintenance! Ahhhh the shame of it all. 😱. Time to get a cleaning in before we start loading into our store.
There are multiple bobbin sizes for machines- Brother machines, Singer, Pfaff… all use slightly different bobbins. My mother gave me a collection of bobbins that were unsorted and, in order to get them identified, I needed a way to size them. In comes the Wawak bobbin guide. So much easier to hold the bobbin up to the chart to figure the size. Now my bobbin bin makes so much more sense!

Just got home from a dash to an estate sale. I’m hungry and dirty but I got this cute FreeWestinghouse. It’s not seized up. Will likely need to rewire it. But I’m excited to do my first antique restoration. #Sewingmachine #restorationproject

Miss andy

When I was about 8 years old my mother taught me how to use a sewing machine. She told me it was like driving a car, and for an 8 year old that was pretty epic. I was hooked.

Back then my projects were tiny clothing for Barbies eventually progressing to over-the-top drag costumes, up-cycled clothing and building a small family of puppets in my tiny NYC dorm room.

Now, after working 20 years in the television industry, it’s time to start the next chapter. I’m turning my passion for fashion and whimsy into Sewasaurus, a home for dreamers and doers.

Did you know that your sewing machine needs regular maintenance?

The secret to better stitching is a well-oiled machine.

Regular maintenance is the best way to keep your machine clean and running smoothly. When machines get dirty they can seize up, stop working and require expensive repair.

Manufacturers each have their own recommendations, but the ballpark figure is every 6 months to a year, depending on how often you use your machine. Casual sewists can stick to a yearly checkup. If you've been sewing your way through fun fur, sequins, or other messy fabrics, bring it in soon after a project so we can clean out lint before it builds up.
